Single Barrel 13 Year Old image
Baker's Single Barrel 13 Year Old
In October 2019, Jim Beam announced Baker's would undergo a packaging redesign and transition to single barrel, exclusively. The standard version would maintain its 107 proof and 7 year age statement. Additionally, a 13 year old version, also single barrel and 107 proof, would be released in limited quantities. This 13 year old version is Baker's first ever limited edition. In addition to the new bottle design, the 13 year old is released with a gift box.

Note: A very small quantity of whiskies came from this single barrel, so taste variability is higher than with larger production whiskies. Many times this is not a big deal (i.e. Blanton's), but sometimes it matters (i.e. Larceny Barrel Proof versions). If the specific barrel is not listed, ask your server or a store employee for more info.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Summer fruit combines with caramel chews, vanilla, and a dash of cinnamon to form the base of aromas. Traces of barrel char and musty funk weave in and out, hinting towards the bourbon's age. Ethanol is present at first, but given adequate time in the glass, dissipates entirely allowing the aromas to come through with more force.
Palate: An immediate pop of rye spice is followed by a rush of raisins, caramel, and summer fruits. Leather, seasoned oak, and barrel char manifest beneath a layer of toasted marshmallow. It's just the right amount of intensity and the sweet-spice-oak balance is on point.
Finish: Allspice and musty oak are countered with a caramel-butterscotch sweetness. The finish becomes a bit dry as it lingers. The spice and sweet flavors serve the bourbon well, keeping the wood flavors in check while nicely showcasing the bourbon's age. Enjoyable overall.
Booker's Boston Batch (2020-02)
The batch is made up of barrels from three different production dates stored in four different rackhouses in six different locations. The breakdown of the barrel storage is as follows: 11% came from the 3rd floor of 7-story warehouse 5, 33% came from the 5th floor of 9-story warehouse G, 27% came from the 6th floor of 9-story warehouse H, 29% came from the 5th floor of 7-story warehouse Z. This will be a history making batch of Booker's Bourbon since I selected this batch with the help of my son and 8th Generation Beam Distiller, Freddie Noe. The color is a rich, light brown that reminds me of the beautiful horses throughout Kentucky. The aroma contains vanilla, toasted nuts and some hints of baking spices. The flavor is full and has a finish that can be enjoyed neat. We enjoyed tasting it and selecting the barrels on an unseasonably cool and rainy day. This batch is special to me since I created it with my son to carry on my father's legacy and his distillery location. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed selecting it.
