Single Barrel Rye image
Old Forester Single Barrel Rye
Since the release of Old Forester Rye in 2019, fans of the brand have been clamoring to try it at barrel strength, and weʼre excited to deliver. For the first time in the brandʼs 150 year history, Old Forester is elated to present this new expression, unfiltered, as a single barrel at barrel strength. As such, each barrel will have it's own unique tasting notes and various proofs- but all distinctly Old Forester Rye. This expression, although extremely limited, will be available nationwide though not through Old Foresterʼs private By the Barrel program.

Note: A very small quantity of whiskies came from this single barrel, so taste variability is higher than with larger production whiskies. Many times this is not a big deal (i.e. Blanton's), but sometimes it matters (i.e. Larceny Barrel Proof versions). If the specific barrel is not listed, ask your server or a store employee for more info.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dessert forward, creamy vanilla and lemon custard, alongside rich caramel and dark brown sugar.
Palate: Full-bodied with a base of ripe orchard fruit, subtle cinnamon stick, dried dill, and hazelnut.
Finish: Lengthy and spice driven, with peripheral black pepper and unpinnings of green anisette and crisp mint.
Old Forester Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
In 1870, our founder George Garvin Brown revolutionized the industry by sealing Bourbon in a glass bottle for the first time. Five generations and nearly 150 years later, we are proud to introduce the first Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky from The First Bottled Bourbon™. A historic recipe, acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I, Old Forester Rye features a mash bill of 65% Rye, 20% Malted Barley, and 15% Corn. Such a high proportion of barley allows for a fully natural fermentation process, forgoing the need for artificial enzymes commonly found in high rye mash bills. Additionally, a generous percentage of malt yields a unique floral character, balancing the sharp, brisk spice of the rye grain. Continuing our legacy of quality and consistency, Old Forester uses its own proprietary yeast strain, produces every barrel, and distills every drop. At 100 proof, Old Forester Rye plays beautifully in a cocktail but also stands up boldly on its own.
