Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 2012 image
Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 2012
This high provenance, heavily-peated single malt was distilled from Islay-grown barley in 2012. A total of eight Islay farms came together to harvest the 2011 crop for Port Charlotte over a tempestuous summer. Each farmer had worked with us before, in Hunter Jackson, Ian Torrance, Ian MacKerrel, Raymond Fletcher, Mark French, Alistair Torrance, Raymond Stewart with father and son team Donald and Andrew Jones. Our community's commitment to Islay is embodied here, where local barley is raised, distilled, matured and bottled only on Islay.

Palate: It's soft on the palate with a pleasant sweetness, honey, vanilla, cedar, black pepper, and smoke.
Finish: Finishes with coconut, peat, and a touch of almonds.

This Port Charlotte 10 year old has been conceived, distilled, matured and bottled on Islay alone. We are a young team with deep-rooted values, and an ambition to make the ultimate “Islay” Islay whisky. This is where we're from.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Calm marine smoke brings a balance in the combination of oak, smoke and spirit. It is dry, earthy, peatash with waves of golden caramel, fudge, vanilla custard, hints of ginger, nutmeg and clove. There is citrus fruit, gentle lemon meringue and clementine. Floral aromas of wild thyme and heather.
Palate: There is delicacy and softness in texture and style. Smoke wraps loosely around the sweetness drawn from deep within the oak. Coconut, vanilla custard, lemon honey combines with smoked oysters and sun baked salty sand.
Finish: Smoky but also the soft sweetness of fudge and malted barley, orange, mango and oak. Many layers interchange on each sip. Notes of ripe apple and apricot, beautifully intertwined with malt and oak sweetness.
