Cardhu 15 Year Old
An elegant Cardhu that takes time to reveal its delicate, fruity and rich character, repaying a little thoughtful contemplation. With its fruit cake, almonds and tropical fruit flavours, this 15 Year Old Cardhu shines best when served neat. Cardhu comes from one of the oldest of the Speyside distilleries, which have nestled in foothills near the River Spey for 200 years and the Cardhu range is an excellent representation of these Speyside whiskies. Known for its smooth, sweet-natured single malt whisky, the history of Cardhu's rise to fame is to a large part told in the story of two determined women who were members of the founding family.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Hints of a fruity richness and spicy complexity with enticing, clean vanilla notes and tropical fruit. Dried fruits (light fruit cake with flaked almonds). Adding water brings out typical Speyside character, and makes the nose slightly more acidic. Late on, at last, greater depth and complexity: sweet, spicy and rich, finishing with dense toffee and toasted coconut.
Palate: Slow to venture forth and quite viscous straight. Cooling, then peppery and lightly charred. Growing richer, still sweet, but now with toffee and chocolate; burnt sugar on a Crème Brûlée. With water, less viscous and sweeter with almost no acidity; very pleasant and easy to drink.
Finish: Smooth, light and slightly drying, with attractive bitter chocolate notes. Not overly long, with a hint of faint smoke at the end.
Cardhu 18 Year Old
An often forgotten achievement of the Cardhu distillery was that at the hands of Elizabeth Cumming, who rebuilt the distillery in 1884 after the death of John Cumming in 1846. With Cardhu being sold in London by 1888, the distillery proudly proclaimed to be the only distillery of the Speyside region not affixing Glen to its name. In 1893, Elizabeth sold to John Walker & Sons, with the added condition that her son John would join the board, this move meaning that Cardhu created malt whisky that would one day become a substantial part of the Johnnie Walker Blends. Note: This is not currently available in the U.S.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Not forward, yet attractively 'natural' and in time rich, balanced and very complex. Macerated fruits; pears, plums, cherries. Hints of pineapple develop a light, green, gooseberry-like edge. Delicate scents of wild rose, menthol and polished leather rise above a soft base of Christmas cake or buttery pastry. Water opens it all up elegantly, without altering the main themes.
Palate: A smooth and sweet taste, unctuous, yet with light and lively acidity. The soft, delicate, fruity core is cradled by rich, chocolate-edged flavours, the texture, chocolate and fruit combining to evoke a cherry liqueur chocolate truffle. Warming overall, it's softer with water, when the balance of tastes remains the same, though lighter.
Finish: Exciting and complex, the conclusion is long, smooth, gently drying and rich in cocoa.
